YEREVAN (Yerkir)–About 300 teenagers in the southern Russian town of Slaviansk-na-Kubani launched a violent attack on local Armenia’s on September 14.
Armenian residents said they also noticed several adults in the crowd. According to the local Armenian newspaper–Yergramas–the crowd threw stones at stores–cafes and other Armenian-owned buildings–and beat up Armenia’s during the process.
They were unable to damage the recently consecrated Armenian church in Slaviansk–however–as local Armenia’s immediately took control to protect it. At that point–the mob was afraid to approach the church.
The victimized Armenia’s were hospitalized but there are no reports on their condition. Yergramas also reported that local police were not present to provide protection–because they had been sent to the town of Anapa earlier.
