YEREVAN (RFE/RL)–The European Union and the Armenian government on Friday signed an agreement on the release of a new EU grant worth 9.5 million Euros ($8 million) designed as an additional funding for several government agencies. The ministries of social security and agricultures–the national department of statistics and the state real estate agency will receive the funds within the framework of the joint "food security program."
"Under the sustained funding from the European Commission–the government of Armenia is implementing reforms in the spheres of agriculture–real estate–information systems and social security," the EU office in Yerevan said in a statement.
The money will come in two installmen’s to be disbursed in August and December. The second tranche of 4.5 million Euros will be conditional on the Armenian government respecting its reform obligations that are part of the program.
