YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A ceremony inaugurating the installment of new training facilities (simulator) for the personnel of the Armenian Nuclear Plant was held January 16. The facilities duplicate the Plant’s unit and will provide the personnel with an opportunity to have regular training exercises. This will allow the personnel to react properly in case of emergency and take appropriate measures.
The European Commission’s Yerevan office for Armenia and Georgia said that raising the safety of the Armenian Nuclear Plant has been one of the priorities of the European Union. Since 1996–with the assistance of the European Union–programs worth 12 million euros have been implemented at the plant to raise its efficiency and safety. The European Union plans on releasing another 11 million euros in 2001 for the solution of safety related problems.
