STEPANAKERT (NKR News)–The NKR ministry of foreign affairs has stated that Azerbaijan’s joining the Council of Europe–despite its incomplete compliance with the standards of the international organization–inspired hope that a civilized dialogue aimed at establishing confidence between the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan would be initiated. However–recent events have shown that Azerbaijan is using the tribune of the Council of Europe for escalating anti-Armenian propaganda–discrediting the authorities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh–and misinforming the international community on the situation in the region. According to the statement–Karabakh considers these actions to be part of the dangerous policy aimed at creating a negative attitude toward Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh not only in Azerbaijan but also throughout the world.
At the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg–the Azerbaijani delegation discontented with its usual falsification of the history of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh–disseminated false information on Azerbaijani prisoners of war and hostages during the "Azerbaijani Genocide" committed by Armenia’s and the alleged use of the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh as a transit route for drug trade–etc. These methods are not only violations of international ethic norms–but also outright falsification. The Azerbaijani representatives–using elementary forgery–refer to documen’s of the ICRC and the U.N.O. ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council)–which either do not exist or do not mention Armenia or Nagorno-Karabakh.
It is evident that Azerbaijan is grossly violating all international commitmen’s. In the NKR statement–it is reminded that Azerbaijan was admitted to the Council of Europe with a number of terms proposing not only democratization of the state political system of the country–but also demonstration of good will for establishing peace and stability in the region. However–the actions of the Azerbaijani authorities show how unprepared and unwilling Azerbaijan is in becoming a member of the European family of nations.
The NKR ministry of foreign affairs is bringing to the attention of international organizations–and those states whose name and prestige Azerbaijan has used for its own intentions–the necessity of firm suppression of any attempts by the Azerbaijanis to misinform international structures.
The NKR ministry of foreign affairs expresses confidence that the international community will urge the Azerbaijani authorities to stop discrediting their partners in the process of the Karabakh conflict’s settlement and to return to a constructive dialogue so that a lasting peace can be achieved in the region.
