NEW YORK–Funeral services for noted benefactor and philanthropist Leyla Karageuzian–who died on Sept. 6 in New York–are scheduled for Saturday and will be officiated by Eastern US and Canada Prelate Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan. She was 96.
Karageuzian had an integral role in the reorganization and expansion of the Karageuzian social service center in Bourj Hammoud–Lebanon.
Her generosity has enabled the construction of public housing Leylavan region of Beirut–as well as the adjacent Karageuzian Armenian day school–where the noted Khanamirian college was established during the civil war.
During the past 70 years Karageuzian–through personal and Karageuzian foundation contributions–she has assisted the needy and the sick–as well as the enhancement of Armenian education.
On the occasion of Karageuzian’s passing–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia dispatched a personal message of condolence–in which he praised Karageuzian’s philanthropic and benevolent endeavors.
