YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In accordance with article 10 of the Law on "Holidays and Remembrance Days," the Armenian government declared October 27 as a day of remembrance for the victims killed in the Armenian Parliament last year.

According to the government information and public relations department–October 27 will be a working-day.

Prime Minister Antranik Markarian addressed a message to the nation Thursday on the occasion of the first anniversary of the October 27–1999 Parliamentary shootings.

In his message–the prime minister said:

"Dear compatriots,

A year ago–October 27–we were all shocked by the horrible crime committed at the National Assembly that claimed the lives of prominent national–state and political figures.

I express my deepest condolences to the families of those killed in that attack and to our whole nation.

I think we must live through this grief with due discretion–as it is typical of our national character–like the best representatives of our nation we must believe in the better future of our Motherland and our people.

We ought to uphold the cause initiated by Vazgen Sargsyan and Karen Demirchian and seek a fair trial of the culprits."

Later in the day–speaking at a ceremony for renaming one of the central streets of Yerevan -Khorhurdaranain Street – Vazgen Sargsyan Street–Prime Minister Andranik Markarian took the oath to do everything to uphold the cause of Vazgen Sargsyan.

He vowed to make sure that all the goals Sargsyan had set for the nation be accomplished.

He also stressed that "it was very difficult to work in the room where Vazgen Sargsyan used to work."
