YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Azerbaijan’s Lider TV station reported that during an exclusive interview with Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe special envoy to Karabagh Andrzej Kasprzyk–the OSCE envoy stated that he is demanding an explanation from the Armenian side on why shots were fired while he was monitoring the area early Tuesday.
Azerbaijan on Wednesday accused Armenian forces of firing on its troops–but Armenia’said the attack came from the Azeri side first.
Kasprzyk was in the area for a routine inspection of the cease-fire line–but cut short his visit because of the shooting.
Asked to comment on Lider TV’s report–Armenian Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Dzyunik Aghajanian said the information is erroneous. "I say this with confidence as we spoke to Andrzej Kasprzyk in order to confirm the validity of the Lider TV’s report," stressed Aghajanian.
Kasprzyk informed Armenia’s Foreign Ministry that he and his delegation were monitoring the area of Armenia’s province of Tavush and Azerbaijan’s province of Tovuz when the shooting began and that his investigation of the incident is not concluded. He added that by mandate–he must first present the final report to the OSCE chairman and Minsk Group co-chairmen.
According to Armenian military representatives participating in the monitoring–shots were fired from weapons not used by Armenia at that part of the border. Aghajanian added that the OSCE delegation was informed about the revelation.
