YEREVAN (Armenpress)–"We had very interesting meetings in Moscow," said parliament speaker Armen Khachatrian to reporters at Zvartnots airport January 19 upon his arrival from Moscow. The Armenian delegation was invited to participate in the first sitting of the Russian newly elected Duma.
Khachatrian had meetings with Genady Seleznev–reelected Duma speaker and Yegor Stroyev–chairman of Duma’s upper chamber and other officials.
The agreemen’s reached during the meetings relate mainly to cooperation on the parliamentary level. Khachatrian said that these agreemen’s will also foster the development of bilateral relations in general.
Khachatrian said in official invitation was extended to him to pay a visit to Moscow and most likely it will take place in March. In his turn Khachatrian invited both Seleznev and Stroyev to visit Armenia.
"Seleznev accepted our invitation with enthusiasm and I believe that his upcoming visit to Armenia will give a new impetus to development of our relations with Russia," said Seleznev.
At the reporters’ request Khachatrian spoke out about Seleznev as a Communist deputy. "I do not think that Seleznev–as a political figure–expresses only the Communist block. He is a big political figure and is capable to work with all political forces without violating the balance," he said.
