YEREVAN (Armenpress)–“I assure you that the US has not forgotten about the appointment of an ambassador to Armenia, but it is not yet clear when the US President will nominate a candidate to that post,” U.S. charge d’affaires Rudolph Perina Thurday today reporters during a reception in the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Perina added that US ambassadors were appointed by the president but the nominated candidate must be approved by the Senate. Perina expressed hope that this time the previous experience of approval of the candidate by the Senate will not be repeated.
President George Bush recalled the nomination of Richard Hoagland after a hold was placed on his nomination by New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez for denying the Armenian Genocide.
