LITTLE ARMENIA—On Jan. 30, 2014, at 12:30 pm, Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School’s middle and high school students garnered power of social media and joined in on the call for action to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Students were asked to take out their phones and through the use of social media sites, Facebook and Twitter, posted a message calling for justice and the defense of human rights along with the hashtag #ArmenianGenocide.
Their message read: 99 years of Denial. 1.5 Million Armenians Massacred. 1915 Genocide still not recognized. Dare to protect human rights. #ArmenianGenocide.
“At Pilibos, we feel it is imperative for our students to be active and take a stand in matters of political and social importance,” said a statement issued by the school. “Today, social media was used to its fullest potential, shedding light around a topic that is both important and relevant, making it available to a larger audience than it would have been possible in the past. We are very proud of our students for their participation and involvement in such an important cause for human rights and for our Armenian heritage!”
