YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Iran’s Tavan Ir and Armenia’s Hayenergo companies are expected to sign an agreement to build a hydro power plant on the border adjacent to the Arax river separating Iran and Armenia’soon–after choosing the most feasible option out of the three tentative plans currently being examined by the two companies.
According to the public relations department of the energy ministry–the Iranian delegation will be invited to Armenia to discuss the issues involved with the construction of the hydro power plant.
According to the document signed during President Robert Kocharian’s visit to Tehran–the companies are supposed to choose one of the options for the plant and start building as soon as investors are secured.
The Hydro Power Plant of Meghri will have a capacity of 75 MW. Currently there are two large hydro power plants in Armenia–Sevan-Hrazdan and Vorotan cascades–25 small plants–14 of which have been privatized and another eight new small plants–five of which have received licenses by the energy regulating commission.
