LA CRESCENTA—The Great House of Cilicia participated in the World Council of Churches’ International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Kingston, Jamaica from May 18 to 25 with a four-person delegation headed by Archbishop Nareg Alemezian, the Ecumenical Officer of the Catholicosate of Great House of Cilicia, Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Vicar General of the Eastern Prelacy, Archdeacon Mark Shirin representing the Western Prelacy and Seta Margossian-Khedeshian, from Lebanon, representing the Middle East Council of Churches.
With more than 1,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, the IEPC convened on the sprawling campus of the University of West Indies with the theme “Glory to God and peace on earth.”
The convocation schedule consisted of daily Bible study, common prayer, plenaries, workshops, and lectures. Cilician See delegates participated fully in the convocation and provided crucial administrative leadership in various activities throughout the week. Archbishop Alemezian played a key role in drafting the Convocation’s message to the world, which summarized the week-long deliberations and IEPC’s positions on the following crucial issues: Ecology, violence, social justice, war, and human rights.
The resolutions emanating from the IEPC will help set the tone and agenda for the World Council of Churches’ General Assembly which will convene in Busan, Korea in 2013.
