LA CRESCENTA—Saturday, December 25 was the feast of St. Stephen the first deacon and Proto-martyr.
On Sunday, December 26, the feast of St. Stephen, which is also a celebration of deacons, was marked at all Prelacy churches during Divine Liturgy.
On this occasion, Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian celebrated Divine Liturgy, deliver the sermon, and ordained deacons at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale.
The newly ordained deacons are Hrant Guekguezian, Setrag Karadolian, Raffi Naljian, Raffi Kurkjian, Arthur Majarian, and Mihran Vartanian.
With the singing of the “Hrashapar” hymn, the Prelate entered the church in a procession to begin the celebration of the Divine Liturgy.
The ordination of the deacons took place prior to the sermon. With the stole-bearers kneeling on the altar, the Prelate beseeched Almighty God to bless them and cleanse them of their sins as they prepared to receive the rank of deacon. Facing westward, the stole-bearers renounced their worldly transgressions and accepted their new responsibilities as deacons.
In his sermon, the Prelate extolled the life and virtues of St. Stephen, urging the newly ordained deacons to remain unwavering in their faith and duties and to live and service in the example of St. Stephen.
