YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian arrived in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe on April 2 for a two-day official visit. At the Dushanbe airport he was welcomed by his counterpart Emomali Rahmonov.
"Armenia and Tajikistan face the same problems after achieving independence," said President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmonov during the meeting with his Armenian counterpart Robert Kocharian.
During the meeting the sides discussed issues on bilateral relations between Armenia and Tajikistan.
It was stated that since 1992 Armenia and Tajikistan have signed 10 documen’s on bilateral cooperation. Therefore–Rakhmonov said–the present level of cooperation is not satisfactory.
The trade turnover between our countries totaled last year only $1,000–though in 1994 it was $240,000.
Concerning this–Rakhmonov stated the necessity of coordination of bilateral cooperation and creation of legal basis between the two countries.
The two presidents also touched upon the issues of bilateral interest. Press Secretary of the president Zafar Saidov said the meeting gave an opportunity to compare the positions of the two countries towards a number of international and regional issues.
At the end of the meeting a number of documen’s on bilateral cooperation and friendship were signed by the presidents.
A number of intergovernmental agreemen’s and agreemen’s by the representatives of Foreign ministries of Armenia and Tajikistan were signed as well.
