SAN FRANCISCO–The Coalition to Preserve Mount Davidson and the Friends of Mount Davidson Conservancy will officially kick-off the Yes on Proposition F campaign Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with a rally and reception at St. John’s Armenian church–275 Olympia Way in San Francisco.
Proposition F will keep Mount Davidson Park as open space with full public access–preserve a historic monument–and uphold the principle of the separation church and state by transferring the land on which the Mount Davidson Cross sits to a private owner–the Council of Armenian-American Organizations of Northern California.
Under a legally-noticed–public auction–the Council of Armenian-American Organization of Northern California was the highest bidder fot he .38 acres on which the cross sits. The transfer of the land was unanimously approved the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. The final approval is contingent on San Francisco votes–on Nov. 4.
"We are very excited to be so close to the culmination of this process," said Coalition Tresurer Paul Tou-Sarkissian. "The Armenian community values the opportunity to give something back to the Bay Area by becoming stewards of this important historical landmark. We are committed to reaching out into the community–talking with voters and leting tem know that this important historical monument is going to stay."
