YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Relatives of Armenia’s political prisoners continued their demonstration at Republic Square in Yerevan Wednesday carrying signs reading–"Free Political Prisoners!" and "Defend the Armenian Heroes!"
Newly-appointed Prosecutor General Henrik Khachatrian immediately agreed to meet with the demonstrators.
During the meeting Khachatrian assured demonstrators that there would no longer be what he called "dictatorship."
Khachatrian vowed to become more informed about the cases involving the September 25 events.
He also agreed to meet with defense attorneys on Thursday.
"The judicial system’s reform process–which is currently under implementation–is in danger because the Prosecutor’s office seems to be out of the process altogether," said newly appointed Khatchatrian.
He seemed very concerned over the absence of law making by the prosecutor’s office–lawyers’ services and courts.
He has also pointed out that the prosecutor’s office must be radically reorganized–because the whole judicial system depends on the prosecutor office’s work.
Khatchatrian stressed that the prosecutor’s office must become more offensive and efficient. The observance of all laws must be secured and the Prosecutor’s office plays an important role.
He considers the fast and qualitative law enactment by the National Assembly to be of paramount importance.
