YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Derry City soccer team of Ireland is out of the Champions League after suffering a defeat in the second leg of the first qualifying round in Yerevan against Pyunic. Derry lost by 2-0.
A score draw would have held Derry’s position, but that elusive goal was never realized.
The opening goal came on at the 29th minute. Pat Jennings initially made a fine save but Pyunic’s Arsen Avetisyan stopped the ball home. The sucker-punch came at 66 minutes when young frontman Gevorg Ghazaryan beat Jennings from inside the area.
Pyunic’s next rival is Shakhter of Ukraine.
