YEREVAN—“Ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey is working on new efforts to deny the Armenian Genocide, paving the way for the perpetration of such crimes in the future,” Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said at a parliamentary hearing Monday.
Noting that Turkey continues its policy of denial, he asked whether Turkey forgot about the post-WWI military tribunal’s verdict sentencing the organizers of the Armenian Genocide to death.
“The Armenian Genocide was a well-organized and planned crime, and all attempts by Ankara to present it in the light of World War I are ineffective. Four generations of Armenians have awaited recognition, and a true reconciliation between the two peoples is possible only in this case,” Kocharyan said.
This back and forth struggle is worst than the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We are no more closer than we were 100 years ago. There is very little common ground on either side. This is the worst example of the human condition in history. No doubt that this all stems from the fact we are both guided by the backward third world mentality. Any other civilized nation would have resolved this issue long ago. These seemingly never ending conflicts all dwell in places where the civilizations are stuck in the dark ages.
There is no reconciliation. To reconcile is to bring back together say an estranged couple or family members. Armenians are not related to Turks and were never “together” that they need to reconcile. We have nothing to reconcile.
Armenia can have normal relations with Turkey – but not until Turkey is held accountable for the crime of genocide.
Accountability is for land, reparation and restitution. Acknowledgment without accountability is hollow and meaningless. Acknowledgment alone without accountability is worse than denial. Beware of a solution that is worse than the problem.
The more the Armenian government stoops so low to beg for acknowledgment only, the more emboldened are the Turks in their denial.
And our lands. All of it.
You tell them Shavarsh. Finally, an Armenian Official telling it like it is. There is no better proof of the Genocide, than the Ottoman Military tribunal,’s sentence. Why are we wasting so much effort on recognition. but not one Armenian language preschool in Diarbakir.
Shavarsh! go home to russia!
