YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–According to Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Football Federation of Armenia Souren Abramian–the reconstruction of the Republic Stadium is 87 percent completed. He reported that most of the financial issues have been resolved and the necessary equipment has been purchased and stored.
Despite the fact that donations to the reconstruction are still being made–the reconstruction of the Stadium will not be completed by September 8 when Armenia is scheduled to host France in a EURO-2000 qualifier.
"A month ago I said–’Give me $500,000–and the game will take place here’," Abramian said.
Abramian said that to procure the necessary funds–the Federation was going to borrow money on low interest-rate credit. The problems of the Stadium are to be discussed at the coming meeting with UEFA officials. Abramian expressed optimism that the Stadium will officially open in the near future.
