GLENDALE–The Armenian Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the completion and opening of the Richard Tufenkian Educational Foundation School in Gumri–Armenia.
AEF members Ralph and Savey Tufenkian–with their generous donation of $300,000–helped underwrite AEF’s commitment for financing the school’s construction.
AEF has invited President and first Lady Robert and Bella Kocharian–His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s and high government officials to be present at the schools opening ceremonies–which will take place on October 17 at the school site. More than 90 AEF members–their families and friends will be traveling to Armenia at their own expense to participate in this celebration.
The new school will accommodate 500 students in two shifts and will replace the Gumri No. 5 School which was completely destroyed in the 1988 earthquake. The AEF provided $260,000 of the $330,000 cost–while the Republic of Armenia provided the remainder.
The AEF arranged and paid for all the necessary school furnishings–including computers and other instructional materials with an additional grant of $100,000. The school was completed within the original budget and on schedule.
