YEREVAN–MARCH 20–ARMENPRESS.
On March 20–the Security Council attached to the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic held a meeting in Stepanakert. According to the Press Secretary of the Nagorno-Karabakh President Alexander Grigorian–during the meeting–the President of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Robert Kocharian reported on the Armenian President’s proposal to take over the post of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
As a result of opinion exchanges by the participants of the meeting, the Security Council suggested Mr. Kocharian to give his consent. Special sessions of Karabakh Government and National Assembly also discussed the Armenian President’s proposal.
During the discussions–Robert Kocharian explained Levon Ter-Petrossian’s basic motives for making such a proposal–which proceeds from the economic development of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh–as well as from security interests.
Mr. Kocharian pointed out that his final decision depends on the decision of Karabakh Government and National Assembly.
During the discussions–both Government members and National Assembly deputies agreed on the expediency of undertaking the responsibilities of Prime Minister by Robert Kocharian.
In his turn–Mr. Kocharian expressed his gratitude to the participants of the meeting for their support to his making sound decision. He assured that the leaving of the post of Karabakh President does not mean that he leaves Karabakh. Robert Kocharian expressed his confidence that his comrades-in-arm will realize his pre-election program on strengthening Nagorno-Karabakh statehood and the defense of the Republic.
