YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A delegation headed by the President of Romania Traian Basescu Wednesday visited the Dzidzernagapert memorial monument and placed a wreath on the memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The Romanian president was accompanied by the Armenian Transport and Communication Minister Andranik Manukian, Deputy Foreign Minister Gegham Gharibjanian, Yerevan Mayor Kamo Areyan. The president also visited the Genocide museum where Director Lavrenti Barseghian presented to him the documentaries proving the fact of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Turkey. In the memorial book the Romanian president wrote "In memory of." The president also planted a tree in the tree alley. Armenian President Robert Kocharian Wednesday said that during the visit of the Romanian president a constructive dialogue was held and a wide-range of issues on bilateral relations were discussed. Speaking at a joint press conference with Basescu, Kocharian said the Armenian-Romanian inter-governmental commission was not persistent in its work urging concrete steps for consolidating bilateral economic ties. The commission presented the two presidents provisions of its activities, which Kocharian said was optimistic. "Armenia and Romania have much more potential for consolidation of economic ties. Armenia has a fertile investment environment for the businesses who want to make investmen’s here and it must be used," the president said. During the meeting the sides also discussed the issue on establishment of air communication, for which, according to the Armenian president, it is necessary to find the proper mechanisms, which will include the transit element as well. Kocharian also emphasized the importance of Romania’s entry into the European Union as a key element in developing EU-Armenia relations within the framework of the Union’s New Neighborhood policy.
