YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Gagik Mkrtchian–a member of the trade and industry ministry told reporters that Armenian and Russian officials finalized negotiations on an agreement on the amount of Russian raw diamonds imports to Armenia in 2002-2006. The agreement is expected to be signed in the coming weeks by Armenian and Russian government officials.
The Russia’s agreed to supply Armenia with 400,000 carats of raw diamonds in 2002-2005 and 450,000 carats in 2006.
The government will distribute the diamonds among numerous Armenian jewelry companies. Armenia received 280,000 carats out of 300,000 carats set aside for Armenia in 2001. The remaining 20,000 carats are expected to be shipped to Armenia next week.
