PASADENA–In his monthly column this week–Democratic Senator Adam Schiff announced the availability of applications for the California State Senate Associates Program.
"I encourage anyone with a strong interest in public policy to apply for [the] paid–11-month program in Sacramento starting this fall," he said. "The California Senate Associates Program offers the opportunity to serve as full-time state Senate staff members working in a senator’s office or legislative committee and this worthwhile program is open to students who will graduate from college by June 1999 or graduates who are seeking to change careers."
According to Schiff–the Associates Program offers an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the legislative process. Applications for the 1999-2000 Associates Program are now available at Senator Schiff’s Pasadena district office at 35 S. Raymond Ave.–Suite 205. The deadline for submitting applications is February 17–1999 with the selection of 18 Associates to be announced in May. There is no preferred major and those with advanced degrees or seeking to change careers are encouraged to apply.
Associates are paid a stipend of $1,707 a month–plus health and dental benefits–and also take part in weekly graduate seminars conducted by California State University–Sacramento.
The program is operated jointly by the Senate and the University’s Center for California Studies.
