BAGHDAD–A Socialist International delegation arrived in Baghdad this week to meet and hold talks with Iraqi political leaders.
The members of the delegation are former Prime Minister of Italy Massimo D’Alema (Left Democrats)–former Prime Minister of Morocco Abderrahman Youssoufi (Socialist Union of Popular Forces–USFP)–former Prime Minister of Norway Thorbjrn Jagland (Norwegian Labour Party–DNA)–former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zlatko Lagumdzija (Social Democratic Party–SDP BiH)–and Secretary General of the Socialist International Luis Ayala.
In its talks with Iraqi leaders–the delegation will stress Socialist International’s readiness to assist Iraq in the development of democracy–the necessity to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms–and the development of a peace to include all citizens of Iraq.
