YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia is following the path of democracy and is gradually solving the problems facing the country–Armenian Parliament Speaker Armen Khachatrian said at his April 1 meeting with UN Coordinator in Armenia–UNDP resident representative Joel Boutrous.
The Parliamentary Public Relations Department quoted Boutrous saying that he has been in Armenia for a few months now–but he has already managed to make sure that great shifts have been registered in Armenia.
He said that he is trying to specify the strategy and programs of cooperation with Armenia and has held numerous discussions with the Central Electoral Commission–Surveillance Chamber and the Armenian government.
According to Khachatrian–Armenia–as the most stable country in the region–has all pre-conditions for economic development: stability in domestic policy–corresponding legislation–which–according to international observers–is the best in the region–and economic growth.
In connection with the struggle against poverty–the Khachatrian pointed out that the conflicts in the region hamper normal economic development–thus–the struggle against poverty needs both socio-economic and political solutions.
Creation of possibilities of equal development of the South Caucasian region and the involvement of all countries of the region in international economic programs will help create new jobs and reduce poverty.
Emphasizing the role of the UN in geopolitical processes and the success of the development programs implemented by UN in Armenia–Khachatrian expressed his support and willingness to take part in joint efforts.
