YEREVAN (Hayots Ashkhar)–A joint session of the executive and legislative branches of the Armenian government was held Wednesday.
Deputy Victor Dallakian asked about the position of the government in relation to the Karabakh conflict.
Kocharian said the issue had started moving as a result of recent discussions. The government’s position–according to him–has remained consistent–despite Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s recent apparent shift in position.
He said–"there is the Minsk group–an established format for the negotiations exists–along with the established position of the Republic of Armenia."
He stressed that no newly developed approaches exist today–and he does not think the situation is desperate. Kocharian believes that the course of resolution of the Karabakh conflict was quite normal so far. The prime minister said he never tried to hide his own approach and if needed– will express it again–"yet there is a president of the country–who is directly responsible for the foreign policy; there also exists a ministry of foreign affairs–both the president and the foreign ministry are implementing their direct functions."
