Tevanik will screen across the US

GLENDALE—The acclaimed film “Tevanik” will hold its premier screening in Glendale and four other major US markets beginning on January 9 at 7 p.m. at the Beyond the Stars Theater in Glendale.

TEVANIK is an internationally acclaimed feature movie about three youngsters and their displaced lives in a village during the war in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh Republic).

The mission of US screenings is to raise funds for Director Avetisyan’s next feature movie “The Last Inhabitant”- the story of displaced and ravaged Armenians in Azerbaijan, slated for production in 2015.

Director Jivan Avetisyan is a 33 year old Karabakh native with an impressive filmography resume of 7 feature films and 14 documentaries. He’s currently the chief producer at the Yerkir Media TV and Communication. Director Avetisyan will in the US to attend screenings, meet with press and media, conduct Q&A and present his next project “The Last Inhabitant.”

TEVANIK screened at the Cannes Festival, toured in Europe (Belgium, Sweden, Italy, Holland, Lithuania, France, Czechoslovakia, United kingdom and Lithuania to name a few), Canada, Lebanon, Iran, Russia and has won numerous international awards including the Golden Apricot in Armenia "Best Feature Film-2014," Silk Road Int'l Festival in China- 2014 "Viewer's Choice," Hollywood- ARPA Int'l Festival- 2014 "Best Screen Play" and Cinemavvenire Int’l Film Festival- 2014 “Jury’s Most Original Work” in Rome.

Carlos Aguilar of Sydney’s Buzz in August 2014 wrote “Having submitted only four times as an independent nation, it is difficult to predict whether Armenia will decide to participate this year. However, they do have a few films that could represent them at the Academy Awards. The most feasible candidate this year for 2015 OSCARS- Best Foreign Language Film Contender is ‘TEVANIK,’ a film about the Karabakh war that screened at the Cannes film market and that has also screened theatrically in its home country.”

TEVANIK will premier in Glendale on Friday January 9, after which it will screen in Boston, NY and Washington DC on the following week (January 14 through 17).

Not only did the Turks slaughter one and a half million of our people in the most barbaric manner, steal our properties, and abduct our children, but, moreover, they destroyed our entire Western Armenian culture, drove our survivors into exile, and pressed us to abandon our identity through assimilation. The Great Powers did nothing to save the civilized Armenians, nor to punish the perpetrators of these great crimes because they were interested only in grabbing Mid East oil. Now those same powers are trying to convince the remnants of the unfortunate Armenians to parley with the Turks in a civilized manner
