It looks like it’s going to be a fall release for the much-anticipated film “The Promise,” which stars Oscar Issac and Christian Bale in an Armenian Genocide-themed epic directed by Academy Award-winner Terry George.
Sources told Asbarez that “The Promise” is eyeing to hit theaters as early as December.
Golden Globe-winner Issac and Oscar winner Bale were announced as leads of “The Promise” last June when Survival Pictures, founded by late-billionaire Kirk Kerkorian revealed the long-rumored film project. According to early reports, Bale will play Chris, who is in love with both a woman and the danger of being in a combat zone during World War I. Isaac will play Michael, who is in love with the same woman but conflicted by old-world traditions and his heart.
George, who was nominated for a best director Oscar for “Hotel Rwanda,” co-wrote “The Promise” with another Academy Award nominated screenwriter Robin Swicord. In March 2013, George was a guest of the Armenian State Pedagogical University, where the Irish filmmaker compared the Armenian Genocide to the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.
The film, which also stars, Charlotte Le Bon, James Cromwell, Marwan Kenzari, Jean Reno, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Angela Sarafyan, among others, completed shooting in Europe last fall and is in post-production.
After shooting was completed on the film, Survival Pictures co-manager and a producer of the film, Eric Esrailian told Asbarez in an email that “Kirk will be proud,” referring to Kerkorian. “That makes all of the hard work even more special.”
The entertainment blog, The Playlist, gave an early prediction that “The Promise” will be on a short list for Academy Award consideration in 2017.

Congratulations!!!! Let’s hope that our responsible media will make efforts to promote this historical movie in order to educate humanity and to prevent future genocides and barbaric events as such!
Armenians all around the world should promote the movie, even buy some tickets and award it for free to popularize the movie
Armenia is being depopulated as we speak. Your brains are stuck a century ago. Who needs Genocide recognition if we’re losing our country as we speak. You want Turks to return Western Armenia, how about you make the Eastern part livable first?
Good point but….”Ottoman” Turks are the initial reason why Armenia’s government is not functional today. It is a result of murdering the intellectuals and confiscating land with valuable resources and causing millions to flee the country and it will take more than 100 years to recover if it ever will. The reason Dubai is a very much developed country today is not because they have a great government, it all about oil. Unfortunately, Armenian does not have valuable resources that it can turn into cash and fund various government departments that make a country powerful and improve the welfare of its people by providing them with jobs to increase standard of living. At the end of the day, for everyone it’s about the assets that they have to start with, and that determines their opportunities they will have and struggles that they will face in life, and there are other factors such as health and associations that play a role as well.
Totally agree! Great idea!!
Hope this movie makes it big and all finally realize that Turkey’s government is to blame and for them to finally come out say … Yes we did it! Recognize and move forward. Now today the so called country isarel is doing similar to the Palestinians. Everybody needs to wake up and take a stand.
Great movie. Will be a great way for the masses to finally understand.
This is great, when can we see the entire movie. Our story will be told until it is heard by all and a promise is kept.
This movie should be seen by many all around the world, so the whole world would know about first Genocide in the last century, and should also learn how stubborn and foolish is Turkish government to deny such a historical fact.
Ignore the poor ratings the movie has got so far for political reasons, and promote it. We were fortunate (or maybe less so) to be in Albarracin, Spain when they were shooting the movie there. I say less fortunate as they wouldn’t let us walk around the town freely and take photos, as we weren’t allowed to take photos of any items that are part of the set. We felt like we were in the past walking through the set not being used that day. Anyway, it’s a beautiful area that you will see in the movie. Already they deserve an Oscar for cinematography.
When is this movie playing in theaters in the usa
