BAGDAD–US Army Reservist John Merguerian–who was called to service in Iraq in February–reported on Thursday that three Armenian women and one Armenian man from Camp Sarah (Baghdad) were attacked traveling from Baghdad to Fallujah. Two of the women–Sona Noubar and Astghig Varojan–died.
Unidentified assailants opened fire on the minibus they were in while on their way to work at the US military base of Habbaniyah–where they did laundry for American soldiers.
They were driving in a convoy–and were attacked by insurgents who were following them in a car. Vera Ibrahim–39–was critically injured–and the driver of the minivan–Khatchik Serkis–was seriously injured. It appeared the women were targeted because they were working for the occupational force.
Merguerian reported that a 25 year-old Iraqi-Armenian–Hagop Nomoyian–also recently died from an Improvised Explosive Device in Tikrit.
