YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Another three Azerbaijani prisoners of war were set free from captivation in Armenia. They left for Baku on June 21 by the UN World Food Program plane and were accompanied by Red Cross officials.
Though prisoners Islamov Elshan Sabir–Rahimov Cyamran Abdul Rahim and Cyamirov Elnur Khanverdi refused to speak to reporters–it was evident by their appearance and clothing that they had been kept in good conditions.
"These prisoners of war are sure that no persecution will threat them in their country"–said Larisa Alaverdian–head of the Against Legal Violations organization. She added that she had met with the Azerbaijani national security minister Namik Abassov in Baku June 29–who said that nothing threatens the prisoners of war and that they can return to Azerbaijan.
It should be mentioned that since 1992 Armenia returned 1,067 prisoners of war–14 of whom were later imprisoned by Azerbaijani authorities. Most of them were accused of cruel attitude to their compatriots during the captivity.
In contrast to Azerbaijan–none of the Armenian prisoners of war who have returned to Armenia have been arrested since 1992.
The Armenian side has recently presented the information on 12 Armenian prisoners of war kept in Azerbaijan. According to Alaverdian–Azerbaijan has not given any reply to the letter yet.
It is worth mentioning that another two Azerbaijani prisoners of war and a civilians are kept in Armenia–but they have not expressed wish to return to their native country yet.
According to official data–two Armenian prisoners of war are still in Azerbaijan and Armenia expects their return soon.
