AKHALKALAK (A-Info)–The co-chair of the Zang party Mels Torosyan–responding to Georgia’s focus on the socio economic implications of the Russian military base closure in Javakhk–stated that the Russian military base of Akhalkalak first and foremost guarantees the physical security of the population of Javakhk.
In recent announcemen’s and in meetings with Armenian officials–Georgia has consistently emphasized the economic implications of a base closure–and has promised to do its utmost to create jobs for those currently working at the military facility.
Torosyan encouraged authorities to–in fact–create those jobs since 50-55 thousand remain unemployed and leave their homeland hoping to seek employment.
