ANKARA (AP)—The Turkish defense minister has asked the United States to speed up the delivery of new attack helicopters to fight the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Turkey’s mountainous southeast.
Vecdi Gonul said Wednesday that Turkey asked the U.S. to deliver the Super Cobra helicopters this year, a year ahead of schedule.
The Kurds have dramatically escalated their attacks this month. Nineteen soldiers and 21 Kurds died in clashes last week.
Gonul says Turkey asked for several attack helicopter gunships but U.S. Congress only approved two. Today’s Zaman newspaper said Turkey had asked for nine.
Human rights groups frequently express concern that Turkish civilians are caught in the middle of the conflict, sparked by ongoing efforts by the Turkish government to force the country’s 20 million impoverished and oppressed Kurds into submission.
Let’s join them and get our Western Armenian lands back.
Lol:)
Join the Kurds that is.
That Turkey requested 9 helicopters instead of the 2 approved by US?… I don’t think that Turkey is requiring helicopters just to fight in their S.E. regions. They are in need of more helicopters to start a more destructive bombing campaign in Iraqi Kurdistan, justifying themselves in the reason of ”pursuing and destroying PKK’s fighters”. But it’s known that the turkish soldiers often commits excesses during their incursions (inside and outside Turkey), that’s why the US only approved 2 helicopters. After all, the US could not be in peace, if they starts to feel the kurdish anger in Irak, by the reason of sustained and usual air attacks in Iraqi Kurdistan… And the US don’t want any arise of unstability in Irak.
U.S. Congress should kept itself away from another modern day ethnic cleansing.
By providing these killing machines , U.S. will be part of crimes against humanity.
U.S. should treat the others with the same Bill of Rights that americans have.
Bravo America! Your weapons to be used by the barbarian and genocidal turks against freedom loving kurds.
Shame on you.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if the Kurds were prepared for those helicopters… greeting them with anti-aircraft weapons!
