ANKARA, Turkey—A Turkish court on April 29 officially blocked access to Wikipedia, in the state’s continued purge against the media.
According to Turkey’s Communications Ministry, Wikipedia was running a “smear campaign” against the state, given that the website refused to remove “anti-Turkish” information.
When users try to access the free online encyclopedia, a notice on the website reads “The loss of availability is consistent with internet filters used to censor content in the country.”
Turkey said they would lift the ban if Wikipedia meets Turkey’s demands.
“Access to information is a fundamental human right,” founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales said in support of Turkey’s citizens. “Turkish people I will always stand with you to fight for this right.”
Turkish authorities have in the past blocked social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, typically during of events deemed a threat to national security.
The Soviet Union was prophesized to fall, when the authorities lost control of the information war. Turkey is at the beggining of that battle. The truth is certain to win. And the Turks are not as smart as the Russians.
This is one of the reason, when Turkic herds run away from their “civilized” county, face the reality of Armenian Genocide, and become professional Armenian Genocide deniers and Armenian haters!
No surprise. Some US schools don’t even accept term papers based on Wikipedia information.
State of Emergency – what a stupid response. Schools do not accept papers based on Wikipedia, because there governing body to ensure all the data is accurate – however, it is different than what Turkey is actually doing which is blocking for political reasons to pressure the denial of the Armenian genocide.
Turkey should keep the good job going.
