TBILISI (Armenpress)–A senior official of the Turkish armed forces pledged its country’s assistance to Georgia in bringing Georgian armed forces into conformity with NATO standards.
The announcement was made by General Zafer Oskan today in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi. A Turkish military delegation was in Georgia on a four-day visit since January 26 and met with top Georgian military officials–including Defense Minister David Tevzadze.
The main topic of the visit was discussion on the financial assistance to the Georgian armed forces. Turkey made available some $28 million in gran’s for Georgia’s defense ministry in the recent four years.
General Zafer Oskan described Georgia as "an important country for Turkey," the stability and security of which impacts not only the region of the South Caucasus–but a wider region.
General Oskan was quoted by the Prime News agency as saying–"Ensuring stability in Georgia supposes strong economy and strong army and Turkey is ready to aid it."
