BAKU (Armenpress)–Turkey will move to normalize relations with neighboring Armenia only after it ceases to press for international recognition of ‘what it claims to be a genocide," Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Wednesday during a visit to Azerbaijan.
In an address to the national parliament of Azerbaijan in Baku, Gul said that as long as Armenia continues to press for the recognition of the 1915 events as genocide, there could be no shift in Turkey’s position.
Gul also said: "apart from Armenia’s unfriendly attitude towards Turkey, Yerevan’s invasion and occupation of Azeri territory was the major cause of the problem."
"I don’t think Turkey is responsible for the way things are at this point and I can’t say that we are pleased with the situation," said Gul.
