YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The General Director of UNESCO–Koichiro Matsura–arrived in Yerevan on Monday on official visit. He will participate in a conference entitled "Rebirth Through Culture" which will be held in Yerevan on November 20-22 and is sponsored by UNESCO.
UNESCO organized this conference in Yerevan because it believes that Armenia’s cultural heritage is in danger. UNESCO’s and the UN’s Program of Development agencies that deal with the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage prepared 26 programs–14 of which will be presented during the conference.
According to Armenian Foreign Ministry’s press office–during his visit–General Director Matsura will meet with Armenia’s President Robert Kochharian–Speaker of Armenian National Assembly Armen Khachatrian–and Prime-Minister Andranik Margarian. He will also meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Margarian–Minister of Science and Education Mkrtchian–and Minister of Culture Roland Sharoyan.
General Director Matsura will also visit Etchmiadzin–the Genocide Memorial–and Yerevan State University where he will meet with the University’s professors and students–and he will awarded the title of Honorary Doctor.
