YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Four universities in Armenia’signed an agreement creating a Joint Coordinating Council. The chairmen of the student councils of Yerevan State Economic University–Yerevan State Medical University–Yerevan State Engineering University and the French University of Armenia’signed the document. The Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema is expected to join the agreement soon.
The document foresees "support for the defense of rights and interests of students–strengthening connections between Armenia and its Diaspora and also among students of foreign institutes–boosting cultural life within the student environment–maintenance and development of spiritual and national values–organization of leisure time for students–raising the effectiveness of training-educational student programs–invigorating science–sport–cultural and public activity of the students." During their meeting–it was proposed that student–youth congresses–festivals–forums should be held–student groups be organized–and programs on solving social problems of students should be developed. The council will cooperate with the Ministry of Education & Science–the Ministry of Culture–Youth Affairs & Sport–the National Council of Armenian youth–the Armenian Youth Fund–the National Youth Fund–and with other state and public organizations.
Hailing the establishment of the council–Vilen Galstyan–the rector of the State Medical University–urged the youth to unfold large-scale activities in order that the signed document will not remain on paper.
The same day the opening of the computer center funded by the National Youth Fund–was held at the Medical University.
