YEREVAN (Yerkir)–The House of Representatives of Uruguay’s Parliament issued a statement on October 26 about Armenian-Turkish relations–Noyan Tapan reported.
"Taking into account this parliament’s contribution to the recognition of the Armenian genocide–as well as its willingness to facilitate the rapprochement of the Armenian and Turkish nations–the House of Representatives of the Uruguay Legislative Body is joining with the United States and the European Union in calling on Turkey to stop the blockade of Armenia and establish diplomatic relations with it," states the statement.
Lilian Keshishian–the first ethnic Armenian member of the Uruguay Parliament–played an active role in the process. She is due to visit Armenia in two weeks in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Armenian Parliament.
