STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Chairman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s parliamentary committee for foreign relations Vasily Atajanian described the US government’s $12.5 million humanitarian assistance package to Karabakh as a restoration of just policy toward Karabakh.
According to him–international financial and public organizations were not right–having deprived "hot spots" on the territory of the former USSR of humanitarian–financial and other kinds of assistance. Atajanian said that as a result thousands of refugees from Azerbaijan–who settled in Nagorno-Karabakh–and Karabakh people themselves had been left without material support.
The chairman noted that the United States was the first country to correct the mistake. Atajanian voiced fears that the assistance may be later used by the United States as an instrument of pressure on Nagorno Karabakh to make the latter compromise.
At the same time the parliamentarian stressed that Karabakh would by no means be pressured into anything less than a just resolution to the conflict.
