TALISH, Artsakh Republic—Artsakh President Bako Sahakian visited the village of Talish in the Martakert region on Friday to dedicate a monument of the revival of that area, which was brutally hit by Azerbaijani forces during the 2016 April War.
“Such a monument is a message to the world that our will is unbending, faith toward our own strength is steadfast, and our optimism cannot be exhaused. We respond to barbarism by our unity, our potential to live, create and build,” said Sahakian at the ceremony, which also coincided with an announcement that three Artsakh soldiers were killed in two days by Azerbaijani forces.
The President expressed his gratitude to the initiators of project, noting that the monument had a special meaning “reflecting our nation unwavering will and determination to restore this are to its former glory and make it prosperous again.
Sahakian emphasized that the restoration of Talish was strategic priority for the government of Artsakh and pledged that it will “come life unconditionally.”
During the ceremony Sahakian presented high state awards to a group of freedom-fighters of the Sisian squad.
Primate of the Artsakh Diocese Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan and other officials were present at the event.
Armenia has too many monuments already. The last thing we need are more monuments! When will our leadership invest in our people?
My friend. That is our job. The Diaspora have to invest in Artsakh. We have to invest in time, money and know how. We need to establish centers of excellence in science, computing, medicine, industry and agriculture. Artsakh’s economy has to shine. And we the diaspora need to help them do it.
The monuments were built in Armenia, by Armenians for the locals. That sustains an artistic tradition that if it spreads, could become an industry. Armenians need to put their thinking caps on an figure out ways to produce things, and make money for themselves and for the government. The old stupid central command economy is dead. It failed economically. Communism is dead. So start making widgets, silver trinkets, stone carvings, value added products, and thrive. Only ignorant people expect riches from a poor government.
Long live Armenian martyrs, long live independent Artsakh .
Amen brother. But slogans alone will not make us strong. Armenia’s weakest link is it’s small population. The Achele’s heel of our defense. Armenia needs the million people it lost, plus another million farming. Artsack’s population should be and could easily sustain amillion people. Overpopulation, in history, always fueled expansion, conversely, underpulation invited invasions from outside. So what are we doing to fuel that constant stream of settlers to Armenia? Nothing! In fact there are agencies and people in Armenia, helping the locals emmigrate to other so called rich coutries. So it behoovs us to suggest to people around us, to immigrate to Armenia. Especially retired people on SS income, Old age assylums, Drug and social rehab centers, Kibutses, etc. A small stake can establish a person in Armenia. In the west, one needs a big stake. (capital) Far more opportunities in Armenia. A growing up and thriving country.
No this president is right. Unity is the answer. It always has been.
