LOS ANGELES–With more than 750 community members and supporter–Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian hosted the Western Prelacy’s annual New Year’s and Christams banquet at Montebello’s Baghramian Hall on Wednesday.
Sponsored by the Western Prelacy’s Religious and Executive Councils–the event was organized by the Prelacy’s Ladies Auxiliary. Convocations were offered by Rev. Krikor Chiftjian–and following the evening’s gathering officially began with the singing of several religous hymns.
Ladies Auxiliary chairwoman Silva Sailablian welcomed the guests and thanked the sponsors–as well as those present for their support for the Western Prelacy’s activities.
In attendance were–Armenia’s Consul General in Los Angeles Armen Melkonian–Consul Edward Taranian–the Nagorno-Karabakh Washington Information Office Director Tevan Boghosian–Lebanese Consul General in Los Angeles Jebran Soufan and his mother–Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee of Western United States–Armenian Relief Society–Homenetmen–and Hamazkayin regional representatives.
Also present were representatives of the Glendale-based law firm of Baker–Olson–LeCroy and Danielian–and Glendale Adventist Medical Center officials.
Featured in the cultural portion of the evening were singer Anahid Shahnazarian accompanied on the piano by Levon Abrahamian–as well as the Hamazkayin Ani Dance Troupe.
In his keynote address for the evening–Bishop Mardirossian stressed the importance of faith in daily life. He praised the work of the Ladies Auxiliary and of the sponsors.
The Prelate also thanked and praised the evening’s sponsors Mr. and Mrs. John and Astghig Bedrossian–who for the occasion had made a contribution of $50,000. In addition–Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Tina Carolann made an additional contribution of $25,000 to their previously donated $100,000. Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Sassounian made a donation of $10,000 and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bahadourian made a contribution of $5,000 in addition to the contribution of Vartco Printing.
The Prelate ended his speech by offering a prayer for the attendees and by expressing his hope that by next year’s dinner the funds for the Prelacy’s new headquarters would be available for the begin of the project.
