Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian sent a congratulatory letter to Armenia’s President-Elect Robert Kocharian. Below is the translated text of that letter.
With heartfelt joy and spiritual jubilation–we greet you as the newly elected President of the Republic of Armenia and the entire Armenian nation.
In this historic and significant juncture in its life–through a democratic and fair election–the Armenian people entrusted you with the unique opportunity to lead them.
Indeed–by electing you–our people chose the path of justice and national unity. Under your wise leadership–as one united homeland–and one nation–Armenia–Karabakh and the Diaspora will together confront and overcome all kinds of challenges and will realize our national dreams.
We are confident that–on assuming your new mission–you will successfully tackle urgent and prime issues concerning the consolidation of the statehood of the Republic of Armenia–its economic upsurge and development–the improvement of the standard of living of our people in the homeland–its spiritual reinvigoration and–primarily–the settlement of the Karabakh issue–with the main objective of leading our ancient homeland and freedom-loving people into a brighter future in the 21st century with firm steps–vision and faith.
On behalf of the Western Prelacy Religious and Executive Councils–clergy–laymen–and faithful people–we heartily congratulate you and pray to our Good Lord to guide and illuminate the path of your sacred mission with His Divine Wisdom–Justice and Truth enabling you to lead our people both in Armenia and the Diaspora in a worthy manner.
