MONTEBELLO–The Western US Homenetmen held its 20 Regional Convention Sunday at the Armenian Center in Montebello–to prepare for and elect delegates to the upcoming Homenetmen World Congress scheduled to take place from March 31 to April 5 in Lebanon.
The convention was conducted with 118 delegates and guests representing 17 chapters of the Western US.
Also present were representative of the Homenetmen Central Committee Koko Balian and fellow Central Executive member Jirair Sarkissian. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western US Central Committee was represented by Mardig Gaboudian.
The convention discussed various proposals which it deemed would enhance and improve Homenetmen activities in the next four years and submitted its resolutions and proposals for consideration at the World Congress.
Specific mention was made of improving Homenetmen’s official publication–Marzig–and making it available on the internet. The convention also discussed the Homenetmen activities in Armenia and the National Scouting organization of Armenia.
At the conclusion of the meeting nine delegates who would represent the Western Region at the World Congress were elected. They were Oshin Peroomian–Mher Tavidian–Maro Keshishian–Viken Apelian–Siran Marselian–Haig Hovsepian–Sako Garabedian–Nercess Melkonian and Manouk Zeitounian. The Regional Executive announced that its chairman Manuel Marselian would represent the executive at the congress.
In his remarks–Balian congratulated the convention and its executive and thanked the local ARF Dro Gomideh and the Montebello chapter of the Homenetmen and the Montebello Armenian Center board for its organization of the meeting.
