YEREVAN (ArmRadio)—May 12 marked the 20th anniversary of the ceasefire agreement signed by representatives of Armenia, Karabakh and Azerbaijan. After 1996 Karabakh was left out of the talks, and Azerbaijan managed to distort the essence of the conflict and present it to the world as a as conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
First Russian Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Vladimir Kazimirov has publicized documents, which actually prove that Azerbaijan accepted Nagorno Karabakh as a party to the negotiations back in 1993, political scientist, historian Gagik Hambaryan told reporters today.
“The Azerbaijani authorities have always negotiated with Nagorno Karabakh, and in 1993 official Baku did not feel embarrassed to hold direct talks with Nagorno Karabakh and ask for a ceasefire,” he said.
The political scientist considers that our diplomacy should use the above-mentioned documents in the negotiations.
“On September 3, 1993 Heydar Aliyev allowed the Speaker of the Supreme Council, Afiyaddin Jalilov, to organize a meeting between officials of Azerbaijan and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic,” he said.
The historian said there are a number of other documents signed by the then President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev. The documents are kept in the archive of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said.
Gagik Hambaryan considers that the documents should be actively used by the Armenian diplomacy to prove that Azerbaijan recognized the Nagorno Karabakh Republic on the presidential level, or at least return Nagorno Karabakh to the negotiating table.
Speaking about US Co-Chair James Warlick’s famous statement, the historian said it wasn’t something new to us. He’s inclined to link the statement to Ukraine events. According to Hambaryan, the West wanted to distract Russia’s attention from Ukraine, but failed to do so.
As for the recent statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, it was connected to the 20th anniversary of the ceasefire, the historian said, adding that “none of the Co-Chairs has the desire and opportunity to solve the conflict.
Aliev knows he will never get Karbakh back for two major reasons first they lost the war and can’t win a nother one second he is some what educated and has read many books that it never belonged to Azerbaijan but was given to them by Stalin but in order to stay in power we will lie and give hope to the Azeri public to stay in power!
Mr Warlick,
Heydar Aliyev and his beloved son believes in corruption and dictatorships! When a fake country built in shaky grounds, that country will be paved for a future civil war. Armenia and Artsakh has nothing to do with Axeri people and their “oily” fake military businesses!
I would love to be a member of the OSCE Minsk Group as a Co-Chair. My salary would be guaranteed by my representative government, plus it would be a fun job. I would be traveling back and forth, dine and lounge, smile, shake hands and be in pictures and the news. I would feel great being an individual who is in Artsakh to decide the destiny of its people.
However, I must know that the brave and freedom loving Artsakh is already independent and free from Turkish-Azeri repressive rule and she will never and ever return to Turkish-Azeri rule.
My sincere advise to my friends at OSCE Minsk Group would be to leave Artsakh alone and join their families at their homes and seek employment elsewhere. Another word, thank you and no thanks for your fruitless efforts. The Artsakh has already decided its faith.
The Genocidal Turkey is not and will not be allowed to have any influence in Armenian affairs. Turkey has no say in Artsakh. Turkey is not a power player in Artsakh as much as she wants to be one.
Long live independent and free Artsakh.
The way Stalin arbitrarily gave Nagorno Karabakh to Azerbaijan, Russia as the heirs of the Soviet Union should have arbitrarily returned it back to Armenia
They should, but they wont. Don’t hold your breath waiting for Russia or anyone else to throw us a bone and “do the right thing”; as long as Armenians continue to leave Armenia, and the Armenian nation is hindered by a bunch of self-serving oligarchs, there will always be on the losing side of issues.
“West wanted to distract Russia´s attention from Ukraine…” Patetic!!!
