YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The idea to create a new international security system–set forth by Armenia–has aroused a keen interest in the world. Armenia is engaged in active diplomacy to realize this program and has already achieved positive results–Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian said in a television appearance.
Oskanian said that the issue had been discussed in detail during his meetings in Brussels–in particular with the foreign ministers of Turkey and Georgia–US Assistant Secretary of State–and still earlier during his meetings with the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran.
"The idea seems to meet the interests of all parties," Oskanian noted. Although these countries have not yet provided their final consent–their preliminary reaction appears to be supportive.
Oskanian reported that "there had been no contact with Azerbaijan in Brussels," however–some statemen’s by the Azeri foreign minister suggest the country’s negative position. In Oskanian’s opinion–if Turkey and the US decide to participate in negotiations–Azerbaijan will also want to be a part of this process as it will meet its interests.
