YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s in Karabakh should have the opportunity to determine their fate–adding that it is their decision to unite themselves with Armenia–human rights activist Yelena Bonner told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty during an interview in Prague Thursday.
The 76-year-old widow of Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov also opined that with the exception of Lachin–all other so-called occupied territories should be returned to Azerbaijan and a permanent peace agreement should be reached with Azerbaijan.
In discussing other Armenian-related issued–Bonner praised President Robert Kocharian–saying that the responsibilities he had inherited were very complicated–but stressed that adhering to democratic norms and principles should be Armenia’s priority–in order to maintain the reputation it has held in the international community.
Bonner added that while she did not blame those who immigrated from Armenia–she did deem the process extremely dangerous for the future of Armenia’s cultural and national identity.
She praised the Armenian Diaspora for its efforts to assist in the development of Armenia. She encourage foreign investment in the Armenia–as a means to improve economic conditions in that country.
