MONTEBELLO—At a gathering on July 29 organized by the Mesrobian Alumni Association to welcome the newly-appointed school principal Seto Boyadjian, $100,000 was raised for the Armenian Mesrobian School in Pico Rivera.
The event, which took place at the Montebello Armenian Center, was attended by representatives of all organizations working in the community, including the pastor, board of trustees delegates and Ladies Auxiliary Guild of the Holy Cross Cathedral, executive board members of the Armenian Relief Society Ani and Nairi chapters, the Armenian Youth Federation, the Homenetmen, as well as members of the school board of trustees, Mesrobian Foundation, family members of the school founders and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dro Gomideh.
In his welcoming remarks, Mesrobian Alumni Association chairman Raffi Minassian said that his association is excited to undertake several projects, including upgrading the facilities to better serve the students and the community. He reported that the cost of this project could exceed $300,000 and the alumni association has undertaken the task to collect the majority of the amount.
Each organizational representative also addressed the crowd, pledging their respective moral and financial support for the school. As a result of these generous contributions, close to $100,000 was raised at the event for the aforementioned projects.
Nazareth Sadorian, the chairman of the ARF Dro Gomideh, introduced Boyadjian, by highlighting his more than 40-year academic experience and service to the community.
Sadorian also reported on the community achievements and outlined the expectations the community has, especially from the Mesrobian School, as an important institution for the prosperity and longevity of the community.
In his remarks, Boyadjian thanked the community members for their support and highlighted the important challenges facing the school, explaining that strategic approach was needed to advance the school.
Boyadjian explained that close relations between the school and the community was needed to ensure continuity of activities and emphasized the need for structural improvements for the advancement of the academic mission of the school.
