GLENDALE–As reported earlier a community-wide committee has been formed to mark the 10th anniversary of the Karabakh liberation struggle. The Executive Board of the committee issued an announcement late last week updating the community on the upcoming events for the month of February which has been declared Karabakh Month.
Below are some of the activities scheduled to take place throughout the month of February: –Youth Gathering: Sunday–February 8 at the Homenetmen "Ararat" Center. San Fernando Avenue; –An evening of culture: Sunday–February 15 at Armenag Der Bedrossian Hall–St. Mary’s Church–Glendale; –Dinner-celebration: Saturday–February 21 at Ferrahian’s Avedissian Hall–Encino; –Celebration/Public gathering: Sunday–February 22 at Hoover High School–Glendale; –Day-long festival and Walkathon: March 1.
The committee also announced that it would be publishing a retrospective booklet chronicling the 10-year struggle for liberation.
The announcement also stated that the committee was working with area Armenian schools to promote the month of Karabakh and encourage inter-and-intra school program dedicated to the 10th anniversary.
Armenian communities in Fresno and the Bay Area are also scheduled to organize activities throughout the month of February to mark this important anniversary.
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is slated to issue petitions addressed to the Clinton Administration regarding the ongoing Karabakh conflict–and will be circulating them for signatures. The ANCA-WR is also in contact with government officials both in Sacramento and Washington to garner their support and statemen’s for the Karabakh conflict.
The Regional Executive of the Homenetmen will dedicate its annual winter games in San Diego to the 10th anniversary of the Karabakh liberation struggle.
In conclusion–the executive board of the committee urged all community members–organizations–schools and churches to become active participants in the celebration–adding that "solidarity with the people of Karabakh is the national duty of each and every Armenian."
