
GLENDALE—The Armenian National Committee of Glendale welcomed local supporters, activists, elected officials, and community leaders for its 8th Annual Armenian Christmas Celebration on Wednesday, January 11 at the K&M Karamanoukian Glendale Youth Center. The event gave guests an opportunity to learn about some of the organization’s achievements in the past year and meet the newly appointed ANCG Board of Directors.
Executive Director of ANCG, Elen Asatryan, who served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening opened the program by thanking those present for their continuous support of the Armenian National Committee – Glendale Chapter and for working with the organization on the common goal of bettering the City of Glendale and was followed by Father Komitas Torrosian from the Western Prelacy who delivered the invocation.
Newly elected Chair of ANC Glendale, Berdj Karapetian, took stage to introduce the 2012-2013 Board of Directors, Garrett Atamian, Hilma Balaian, Lena Bozoyan, Pierre Chraghchian, David Gevorkyan, Zareh Movsessian, Kevork Talatinian and discussed some of the structural changes to take place within the organization in the coming months, including obtaining input from city leaders, local organizations and community members about issues of importance as well as the establishment of various working sub-committees.
“The Christmas Celebration provides us the opportunity to continue our tradition, bring old friends and new acquaintances together, and brighten the lives of others.” stated Karapetian.

Consecutively, members of the ANCG governing body distributed certificates to the 2011 ANCG Internship Program graduates Sepan Beglaryan, Patil Derderian, Anoush Djbashian, Tadeh Gharib, Sipan Ghazarian, Celine Khalafian, Shant Seraydaryan, whille Chair Karapetian presented two local students, Carla Kekejian and Yervand Azatian, with $500.00 scholarships from the ANCG Youth Activist Scholarship Fund.
ANC Glendale also used the Annual Christmas Celebration to collect store packaged toys. Over 200 items will be delivered to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and the Glendale YWCA in the coming week.
Guests included Council Members Ara Najarian and Rafi Manoukian, Glendale City Manager Scott Ochoa, Glendale Police Chief Ronald DePompa, Glendale Fire Chief Harold Scoggins, Members of GUSD Board of Education: Greg Krikorian, Nayiri Nahabedian, Joylene Wagner and Christine Walters, GCC Board of Trustees Anita Gabrielian, Armine Hacopian, Vahe Peroomian and Tony Tartaglia, GCC President Dr. Dawn Lindsay, GUSD Superintendent Dr. Richard Sheehan, City & GUSD Department heads and staff, city commissioners, representatives from community based organizations such as the Armenian Bar Association, ACF Glendale, ANC Western Region and Burbank, ARS Sepan Chapter, Glendale Historical Society, Glendale Community Foundation, Glendale YMCA, Glendale YWCA, Homenetmen Ararat Chapter League of Women Voters, Neighborhood Legal Services, St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church and others.
ANC Glendale advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
